Hello there everyone! I'm Maya Goo, Emily's assistant helping her work on the new unisex, all ages line for Devon Rose. To give myself a small introduction, I am a fashion and textiles student at California College of the Arts, with what I would consider a minor in Bookmaking and book arts. I have kept a journal since I was eight years old, and have filled over 30 since then. As an art student, my journals are part life events, part artwork in themselves. You can see flip-throughs of my journals on my website.
For this project, Emily has asked me to keep a progress journal of our thought process throughout the designing of this line: including inspiration, sketches of ideas, and notes from our conversations. Like layered graffiti that Emily is inspired by for this collection, we layer our ideas on top of one another until we come to the best solution. Designing for all ages and genders can be tough, but we are trying to keep an open mind about what "genders" clothing--maybe to throw away the idea that clothing has to be gendered.
The below video shows the process sketchbook so far: stay tuned into this blog for more updates. If you're not already following, check out Devon Rose's instagram @ilovedevonrose, and to keep updated with my journaling process, check my instagram @mayagoooo
